John’s History
John grew up on a dairy farm and learned the value of hard work at an early age. He became interested in landscaping when he was about 16 years old. Having a love for the outdoors and needing to pay his way through college, he decided to start up his own lawn care business, WW Lawns. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University, Landscape Architecture, B.L.A. program with additional studies in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he served his apprenticeship in Delaware with McCann, Inc., a multi discipline land planning firm. While there, he designed miles of roads, sewers, and water mains where he gained extensive knowledge in storm water and erosion control. In 1996, he and his family moved to Knoxville where he worked for a major landscaping company designing and building residential and commercial landscaping projects such as Dowell Springs on Middlebrook Pike and the water feature at Safety City in Downtown Knoxville. Over the years he was encouraged to go into business for himself because of his honest work ethic, diverse construction experience and attention to detail. In 2005, he started his own business, Brookhaven Designs, LLC. He enjoys having his own business because it allows him the opportunity to spend more time with his clients to discuss what they want to achieve. There are many different ways to create an outdoor living space, many different varieties of plants, flowers, stones and pavers.
